Lessons Learnt
This project was more complex than originally
anticipated, however, due to strong leadership, good document
management and communication, this complexity was dealt with
swiftly and was aided by the manageable and realistic milestones,
which already had built-in contingency.
Due to the innovative nature of this project,
the initial identification of skill-sets was difficult to
predict, however, future Project Managers may benefit from
studying the job descriptions detailed later in this document.
At the very start of this project, West Sussex
reviewed its entire project portfolio to establish similarities
and overlaps inclusive of Government legislation and initiatives,
such as Freedom of Information Publication Schemes.
As anticipated, West Sussex benefited strongly
from utilising feedback from as many quarters as possible,
such as http://www.govtalk.gov.uk/
community and discussion forums and other peer review mechanisms,
in particular our project website, which can be found at http://iman-repos.sourceforge.net
Next
Steps
Further collaboration with other bodies, such
as, ICIS, Health Service, Police and Education. Minority groups
will be carried out, particularly in enhancing the specialised
vocabulary.
The schema is currently up on GovTalk for peer
review - access via their discussion forum and community pages.
About 2,000 registered users of this site were notified of
its existence. The team has also had positive feedback from
all 2nd Tier partners and a representative of BASE.gov Future
issues are likely to include:
- ensuring that there is effective publicity
to promote the availability of the schema and repository
functionality.
- continued maintenance of the taxonomy.
- integration with the forthcoming Content
Management and Electronic Document Management Systems
- working with the 'SeamlessUK' project whose
aim is to create a web-based Citizens' Gateway. This is
envisaged as a single point of access to multiple sources,
which integrates information from key national and local
suppliers in a joined-up way, whilst allowing organisations
to retain their own identity within the system
- the opportunity to develop the Local E-Government
Access to Transactions On-line project (LEGATO) via the
e-gov@local personalised local service websites national
project
